Ladies in Waiting is a series inspired by the medieval trope of ladies-in-waiting, who are princesses waiting in their towers for their princes to rescue them, and the handmaidens who are secondary — in the background and never chosen.
This idea of ladies who are waiting for something to happen to them, but are always passive and never active.
This series of small gouache illustrations takes this trope and places modern women into this idea; that these women are waiting for something to happen to them; something to change; something to fight against — but always seen as a passive figure.
